Now You See What You Dont - Ez RF NMS

Networks are getting more virtual. Wireless enabled networks are a management nightmare, as you cannot see where they begin and where they end. Meru Networks used Apparatus’ user interface expertise in creating a visualization and management tool for Wi-Fi networks. It was more about making the invisible visible.

Project Ez RF NMS
Client Meru Networks, Sunnyvale, CA, USA
Creative Team Creative team: Director - Usability, Creative Lead, Information Architect and Production Team.
Objective To define a proactive user interface system for a WLAN Network Management application with a focus on real time status indication combined with extreme visualization capabilities
Scope

To define the information model, information architecture, navigation model, interaction design and a demonstrable simulation of concept prototype designed for Java Swing interface technology.

Users Network managers, Wireless Security Managers and IS users.

Voila! Meru Networks is a Global leader in Wireless VOIP infrastructure solutions. Meru was in the initial development stages of a new WLAN Network Management System (NMS) that enables users within an enterprise to monitor, visualize, configure, locate, report and administer their WLAN Network. Meru approached Apparatus for designing a proactive user interface system.

Apparatus Team conducted a distillation workshop with the stakeholders to understand the complex domain of Network Management Systems. The challenge was to provide the user an ability to ‘see’ wireless range and interferences to manage the network. The Apparatus team created detailed definitions of screens incorporating extreme visualizations within the given technology constraints.

Meru named this product as Ez RF which is now being released to its customers in September 2006. This product has already received much positive feedback from the prospective clients and Apparatus is currently doing the user interface audit of the developed UI to validate compliance and enhancements against the initial suggestions.
